Friends

An old friend of mine from school was in town for a few days and I was able to find some time to get away and go see her. It was so nice to be able to sit there for almost 4 hours and catch up on all that has happened since we last saw each other - which was a little over 10 years ago. We have known each other since kindergarten. It sounds funny saying that we have known each other for over 20 years. Maybe not so funny - it makes me feel old!

I brought Hadlei with me so that she could play with Sheri's son,Sammy. His pics on her blog don't do him justice. He is the cutest litlle guy! The two of them had a ball playing together. I think Sammy's favorite part was chasing Hadlei around the dining room table. He was laughing hysterically the whole time he was doing it. He even grabbed his grama to join in on the fun.

Being as busy as I am I really miss going out with my friends. Some of them live too far away to do that. But it's nice to be able to spend time with them when they pop into town for a visit. You should come back more often!

Sheri - I really did have a wonderful time just hanging out last nite. Some adult time really does some good. I am so glad that we were able to catch up on everything and just sit and chat for a while. I wish you were closer so that we could do it more often. Maybe when Jon finishes his fellowship... It's so hard to believe that we met over 23 years ago. I got out an old yearbook and we were so little!! And we were cute, too! Time flies. One day we're little kids playing house and the next we're married with children. Have a Happy New Year and a safe flight home. I'll miss you!

Football Week 17

DALLAS 6
WASHINGTON 27

It was a game that Dallas didn't have to win and obviously they didn't try. They rested all their injured guys and even though Romo played until the 3rd quarter my Boys just didn't feel the need to win. And I would have to agree with that decision. There was really no point in trying to win the game and risk injury to the few 1st string guys that did play. They are in the playoffs and have homefield advantage and have a bye week coming up. The injured guys have time to rest so that they can continue on strong in their quest to win the Superbowl.

I am now going to do something that I will never ever do again....I am going to give props to the Giants for a game well played against the Patriots. Yes,you heard me right - I said the Giants played a good game. I wasn't going to watch it because it didn't interest me in the least but when the hubby got home from work he wanted me to watch the game with him so I did. I hate the Giants(conference rivalry)but I hate the Patriots even more. My hatred for the Pats comes from the fact that they cheated and were allowed to get away with it. Their "punishment" wasn't anything but a slap on the wrist - a $500,000 fine and they lost their first round draft pick for next season. It certainly didn't send a message that there would be harsh consequences for anyone caught cheating They should have automatically been given a loss for that game. I will argue with anyone that wants to say that they were undefeated this season because they weren't. The Giants should have had that game,as much as it pains me to say that. There were lousy penalty calls against the Giants and some that weren't called against the Patriots. The Patriots threw a fit when the Giants had the lead over them and they began to do what they do best - cheat. One of their guys even tried to poke out Brandon Jacobs' eye! And there was a ref right there and he never threw a flag. But hey,I guess that's what happens when you try to beat an "undefeated" team and the NFL. The NFL wanted the Pats to win because that means big bucks in their pocket from the sales of "Undefeated Patriots" merchandise. Makes me sick.

There was one consolation...at least it wasn't up to my team to stop them in the end. After all that being said I need to go wash the nasty taste out of my mouth from talking nice about the Giants. Never again.....

Christmas - The Aftermath

I love Christmas but my least favorite part would have to be the clean up. I spent all day yesterday opening boxes and putting away toys. I started around 9 and didn't sit down until sometime after 6. I did get all of the kids rooms cleaned and everything put away. But by 6 I was too tired to conquer my room so I left that and the laundry for today.

To make matters worse I am coming down with something so I felt terrible for the better part of the day. But I still got my work done. I didn't eat until I was finished with everything and the wait was well worth it. My hubby went to Outback (which is my favorite restaurant)and picked up dinner for me courtesy of Sal and Meow who got us a gift card for Outback for Christmas. Love you guys! Dinner was delicious.

We settled the kids down relatively early because we were all tired. Pat and I cozied up on the couch and watched Rush Hour 3 - which was hilarious. We watched a little tv after that and I fell asleep on him. I just couldn't hold out any longer.

I would have to say that it was another wonderful holiday season and I was very happy that I was able to spend it with family. Now it's back to the daily grind...time to go do the laundry - I hear it calling me :)

Merry Christmas!!!

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope that you all enjoyed today as much as I did. It was a busy day as it is every year. We usually have multiple stops to make and this year was no exception.

The kids were up bright and early to open gifts. They were pleasantly surprised when they came out into the livingroom and saw all that Santa had left for them. Their eyes were so wide with amazement and anticipation. They had such a good time opening everything. I think the best part of the whole morning was when they were done opening their presents and they came over and gave us the biggest hugs and thank yous. There is nothing better than knowing that you have instilled such good morals and manners in your children - well nothing other than seeing it.

After we were finished I took my uncle back to my gram's so that he could spend some time with them. From there I went to pick up my MIL and brought her back to our house for dinner. Pat and I didn't want her to be alone on Christmas so we asked her to come and spend some time with us. And she was more than happy to. The kids were so thrilled to see her and glad to be able to spend some time with her. I could tell that she was just as happy - if not happier.

Once we were done with dinner we all went up to see grampa. Pat and I would have loved to have had him come to our house for Christmas but we wouldn't have been able to get him up our stairs. So we went to him. His face lit up as soon as he saw the kids walk in. He loves to see them. We had a good time visiting with grampa. I know seeing the kids made his day.

Now it's on to gram's. I dropped off my MIL at her place and left her with a big smile on her face. I know she had a great day. The kids got to open more presents and as usual were spoiled by my mom and gram. But again, they were full of hugs and thank yous. I think I will take a second to give myself a little pat on the back for raising some darn good kids so far *pat pat*. By this time it's late and the kids are tired. They have had a full day. So we headed home and to bed...

All in all it was a great day and we were able to share it with our wonderful family. When it comes right down to it you can't ask for anything more than that. Merry Christmas everyone!

Christmas Eve

My family had our traditional Christmas Eve party again this year. We have done it the same way every year for as long as I can remember. My family all gets together and we just hang out for the evening. We eat dinner and then exchange gifts among the adults. We also bring a gift for the kids to open.

It's a nice way to celebrate the holidays - being with family. This year was especially important to my gram because I think that with all that she has gone through this past year she was afraid that she wasn't going to see another Christmas. But by the grace of God she has and we hope to have her here for quite a few more.

I did something a little different this year. I brought my uncle Frank home with me to spend the nite. Usually on Christmas Eve he comes home with Brian and then someone from his house comes to pick him up and then brings him back in the morning. I decided to keep him with me this year. I knew he would like that and that gram would, too. And they both did. Frank loved being around the kids.

Being Christmas Eve there will be things that need to be assembled. That means a late nite and very early morning. That is exactly how it happened....

Football Week 16

DALLAS 20
CAROLINA 13

I wasn't able to watch the game this week because it was on the NFL network and Time Warner doesn't carry it. But that's ok - I just kept checking the score online. Dallas' win this week and Greenbay's loss to the Bears(ha ha)has clinched homefield advantage for Dallas. And it also means that Greenbay may have to go back through Dallas to continue forward. Good luck with that one cheeseheads! We have Washington next week which is a pointless game and then we have a bye week. The second week of January Dallas goes head to head with the wild card winner - whoever that may be.

After over a decade of ever-changing QBs I think Dallas has finally found their fit in Romo. The defense is phenomenal and the offense ain't too shabby either :) It's been a long time coming.

Football Week 15

DALLAS 6
PHILIDELPHIA 10

Well,Dallas never showed up for the game last nite. I'm not quite sure where they were. What an awful game!!! I don't know what went wrong with my Boys last nite. TO couldn't catch the ball. I think he may have caught 1 - maybe. And I think Romo was too worried about his skank girlfriend being there in the audience. He should've been worried about his performance. Ah well, what can you do. I am a fan - through the good and the bad. Chalk it up to a bad week and we'll put it behind us and move on to next week.

And I have to add that the Giants are pretty much done for the season. My hubby told me that Shockey broke his leg and I tried not to laugh because he was pretty pissed. I told him there's always next year - ha ha :)

Little Bit of Everything

I feel like I have been neglecting my poor blog. I have just been so busy taking care of gram and everything else that I normally do that I just haven't had the time. So I figured I would just throw all recent events into one post.

Gram is back in the hospital. She has been there since last Wednesday. Her kidneys failed again. She has so much output from her bag that she has a hard time staying hydrated. She has a new GI dr and he's great. He has run so many tests to try to find out what is going on with her. One of the tests he did was for potassium and she had extremely elevated levels of that. So much so that a few drs said that she should be dead. I can't tell you how many times I have heard that statement in the last 6 months. I am so afraid that one of these times she will run out of should be's. If she could get the reversal done on her bag that would eliminate a lot of the problems she is having. That is something the drs are getting together to figure out - how soon it can be done. She is still waiting on a few tests which should be in tomorrow and then we will see when she can go home.

Kids are doing great. I had their conferences recently and they are all doing an exceptional job. Both girls are reading at two grade levels above the grade they are in. Jordan is excelling in science which I have to admit I was a bit shocked to hear. I didn't realize that he liked it so much. Their teachers love them and raved about what great kids they are. It's so nice to hear that especially when I know what devils they can be :)

Christmas is coming fast and furious. I have to do double duty where shopping is concerned because gram can't get out to do a lot of hers. I am close to being finished - maybe another trip or two. I do spoil my children because I believe that they deserve it. But they also know what Christmas is all about. That is how I grew up. My brother and I knew what the real meaning of Christmas was and at the same time we were given plenty. We knew to be very appreciative of what we had and we always were. We always celebrated Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with our entire family. And we still do. I see nothing wrong with spoiling the kids as long as they know to appreciate what they have. And that they remember the true meaning of the holiday.

Guess there isn't too much else going on. Just the usual trips to the dr and the grocery store or wherever else I need to go. Wait - I take that back. Pat and I do have something pretty important going on but I can't post about it just yet. Soon though - I promise. Don't mean to leave you hanging like that but I have to...for now.

NFC East Champions!

After today's win over the Detroit Lions,Dallas has become the NFC East Champions! It's been a long time coming. They haven't had that title since 1998. Goes to show how valuable a good QB is. After going through at least 7 since Aikman retired Dallas has finally found its star in Tony Romo. Granted he is far from perfect but he's the best we've had since Aikman. And I guess since he is so good we can overlook his taste in women - Jessica Simpson - puhleeze!!

Dallas is now 12-1. It was a nailbiter until the end. The game wasn't on regular tv so I went to my uncle's and we watched it online. We did get to see the last 31 seconds on tv though because they switched to the Dallas game after the Giants beat the Eagles - which was a lucky win since Philly missed the field goal to tie it up. You should have seen us fly down the stairs when we heard the announcers say they were headed to Detroit to pick up that game. Dallas was trailing 21-27 and with 18 seconds left Romo threw to Witten for the winning TD. Sweet victory!!!

Philly comes to Dallas next week. Then comes Carolina and Washington. Then it's on to the playoffs with homefield advantage. And if all goes well it's on to the Superbowl!!!
